LEARNING ABOUT THE OPERATING SYSTEM

This is an operating system starting up. Operating system is very important for a computer. Let’s explore what it does.

*What is a Computer Made up of?*
A computer is made up of hardware and software.

1. Hardware
Hardware refers to the physical parts of a computer that you can touch or feel. Examples include:
– CPU          - Keyboard        - Printer
– Monitor        - Mouse         - Microphone

Input devices, the processing unit, storage devices, and output devices are all essential components of computer *hardware*.

2. Software
Software refers to a set of programs (instructions given to a computer) that perform tasks. Some popular software includes:

 MS Windows
 MS Office
Adobe Flash
-Adobe Photoshop

The following three steps explain how a computer works.

 Operating System
An operating system is a software program that manages a computer’s hardware and software resources. It helps users interact with the computer and get things done. A computer cannot function without an operating system.

Some common operating systems include:

macOS: Developed by Apple and used in Mac computers.
Windows: Developed by Microsoft and used by many different computers.
