Weighted Grade Calculator

Add assignments or grade categories, enter each score and weight, and calculate your weighted course grade. If part of the course is still ungraded, the calculator also shows the average you need on the remaining work to reach your target.

Quick formula Multiply each score by its course weight, then add the weighted points. If only part of the course is complete, divide earned weighted points by the completed weight to find your current grade on completed work.

Calculate Your Weighted Grade

Use one row per assignment or category. Weights may total 100% for a final grade, or less than 100% if part of the course is still remaining.

How to Use the Weighted Grade Calculator

Add each assignment or grading category that contributes to your course grade. Enter the score you earned and the percentage weight that item carries in the final course grade.

For example, if homework is worth 20%, quizzes 25%, a midterm 25% and a final exam 30%, those weights add up to 100%.

Weighted Grade Formula

Weighted points = score × (weight ÷ 100)

Add the weighted points from all rows. If the weights total 100%, the total weighted points are your final course percentage.

If the entered weights total less than 100%, the calculator also shows your grade across completed work:

Grade on completed work = weighted points earned ÷ (completed weight ÷ 100)

Weighted Grade Example

Suppose homework is worth 20% and you have 90%, quizzes are worth 25% and you have 84%, and a midterm is worth 25% and you earned 88%.

The weighted points are 18 + 21 + 22 = 61. You have completed 70% of the course, so your grade across completed work is 61 ÷ 0.70 = 87.14%.

What Average Do I Need on the Remaining Work?

The target planner uses your weighted points already earned and the amount of the course that remains:

Required remaining average = (target grade − weighted points earned) ÷ (remaining weight ÷ 100)

If that result is above 100%, your target cannot be reached under the entered weights unless your course has extra credit, a curve, dropped scores or another grading rule that changes the math.

Weighted Grade Calculator vs Final Grade Calculator

Use this page when several assignments or categories carry different weights. If you already know your current overall grade and only need to know what score you need on one final exam, use the Final Grade Calculator.

Can I Use Categories Instead of Individual Assignments?

Yes. If your gradebook already gives you category averages, enter rows such as Homework, Quizzes, Projects and Exams, then use the category weights from your syllabus.

What If My Weights Do Not Add Up to 100%?

If the weights total less than 100%, the difference is treated as ungraded course weight. If they exceed 100%, the calculator warns you to check the values.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate a weighted grade?

Multiply every score by its decimal course weight and add the results. If the weights total 100%, the sum is the final course grade.

How do I calculate my current grade if the course is not finished?

Add your weighted points earned so far and divide by the fraction of course weight completed.

What does a 30% final mean?

It means the final exam contributes 30 percentage points of the 100% course grade. The rest of the course contributes the other 70%.

Can I enter decimal weights?

Yes. The calculator accepts weights such as 12.5% and 7.25%.

Does this calculator handle extra credit?

Extra-credit rules vary too much to assume one method. Use the exact grading policy in your syllabus when extra credit changes the normal 100% weighting system.

Is this calculator free?

Yes. It runs in your browser and requires no account.
